In my current work I postulate that there are certain things
of which we know we should be careful in our daily lives, and yet as adults, there is the tendency to think that we can indulge
in potential harms because we are masters of our domain. We resist anyone telling us that we should change our ways
because we are going to hurt ourselves, our world, or those around us. Without making any moral judgments, I am attempting
to illuminate these suspect issues. Underneath the saccharine sweet façade of my work, I use the despoilment
of innocence as a major vessel for my message. By projecting my scenarios onto the purity of children, I am trying to
show what can happen when technology is abused and consumerism preoccupies our lives, without directly indicting the viewer.
In this way, my artwork serves as a mirror of sorts, but only insofar as I want my viewer to be aware of the world around
them. And I include myself as one of the reflected. I hope that when we see how absurd and disturbing it looks
when children replace us in these scenarios, that it causes some introspection, makes us reevaluate how we live our lives,
and effects change if we determine that change is needed. Awareness is the root of progress.
